Well here we are again. Just weeks away from our student trip to Nicaragua again! Just wanted to say hi on the blog and let you all know that we will be updating from here again during our trip this summer! Our team this year is bigger than ever, we are taking 33 (including leaders) from Spring Branch AND we are joining the group from Trinity. In total we will be close to 60 people, which should be very different and exciting! With a larger team we will get to serve more children and accomplish more while there.
Our mission this year is to be "Water-Walkers". Inspired from Peter's story where he walks on the water with Jesus (Matthew 14:24-32). Our hope is that we step out of our boats of comfort and take risks. We had a team meeting a few weeks ago at our mission overnight and I shared this list of "boats" with our students that we are going to try to step out of while in Nicaragua! Here is the list of "boats" that you can be praying that we risk stepping out of during our week there:
The Boats of Nicaragua
- the Different Culture Boat
- the Language Barrier Boat
- the Tired/Hot/Sweaty Boat
- the Shock of Poverty Boat
- the Bugs/Dirt/Germs Boat
- the Friends/Significant Others Boat
- the Food Boat
- the Hide Behind the Camera Boat
- the We are Better than You Boat
- the Let's Find an Answer Boat
Over the past four years in leading students on this trip, I have seen each of these things hold up different students from fully engaging with the children and families in Nicaragua that we get to serve. It is our prayer for the team that this year we would not let ourselves miss any water-walking moments by getting trapped in one or more of these boats!
Well we look forward to sharing our time with you as we prepare and experience our week in Nicaragua! Check back soon and thanks for keeping up with us!
